Start page guide
A privacy-friendly start page: what’s stored, and where
The short answerpicktheclick keeps your tiles and your search mode in your browser’s local storage, on your device. There is no account. Searches go straight from your browser to Ecosia or Brave Search, not through us. Icons for the default sites ship with the page; any other icon (sites you add, some featured tiles) comes from DuckDuckGo’s icon service, which sees that site’s domain.
What’s stored, and where
- Your tiles (name and address): in this browser’s local storage. Clearing site data removes them, so export a backup first.
- Your search mode (Web or Ask AI): in local storage too.
- On our server: nothing about you. There’s no account to store it in.
Who else sees what
- Searches: go directly from your browser to Ecosia (Web) or Brave Search (Ask AI), in a new tab.
- Icons: the 28 default sites’ icons are built into the page. Any other icon (a site you add, some featured tiles) is fetched from DuckDuckGo’s icon service (
icons.duckduckgo.com), which receives that site’s domain. - Fonts: loaded from Google Fonts.
- Add-a-tile links: with the
#add=form, the address being pinned never leaves your device.
Featured tiles
Two tiles are marked “featured”. They rotate through sites in the pickthe family and are labelled so you can tell them apart from yours.
